about

Second release of 2014.

Traveling from paranoid psych-noise to (occasionally atonal) piano-based neoclassical and then spanning across synthpop, drone, musique-concrete, and trip-hop, Dread Dead Dog Dream was partially an attempt to improve techniques I have experimented w/ in the past. I suppose you could say that every album is technically attempting to improve upon techniques of the artists, because the latest album is usually going to be better than the last in their opinion—otherwise why would they put it out?—but anyway—whether the experiment was successful or not I honestly have no idea, either, but I'm pretty happy a fair amount of these tracks and would love for you to take a listen.

A brief (?) self-indulgent anecdote about the process of this album:
The first track I recorded was Dustbunnies, entirely on a guitar around midnight; if you listen closely you can hear an angry half-asleep parent yelling at me somewhere in there. Inspired by the frantic, schizophrenic sounds of Butthole Surfers, Animal Collective, and Melt-Banana, I hurriedly put together a couple of noise-pop tracks and then immediately sent them to the digital incinerator, the sole survivor being the first track. After getting the loud psychedelic aesthetic out I was able to get some real work done and create some decent ambient tracks + some trip-hop. My end result was a slow-moving, dark diarrhea of an album, so I turned to my trusty role model Neil Cicierega for inspiration and did a very straightforward synthpop tune. The final spice that it was lacking was some neo-classical which is always a challenge for me having absolutely no musical training, and kind of just composing by ear (which may be apparent) and finally then I finished the album, mixed it, mastered it, and boom: here we are.
